This original etching by Ben Dasher, titled State III, is a rare Artist’s Proof I (A/P I) created in 2010. As the first Artist’s Proof in the edition, this print holds special significance—it was likely one of the earliest test impressions, personally selected by the artist before finalizing the edition.
A defining feature of this etching is the deeply impressed plate mark, confirming its authenticity as a hand-pulled etching. The composition is divided into two distinct panels, each surrounded by a beveled edge where the metal plate pressed into the paper—an indication of the traditional intaglio printmaking process rather than a modern reproduction. The dimensionality of the print enhances its rich tonal contrasts, making it a standout example of fine art etching.
This Artist’s Proof I was also exhibited at the 2011 Rittenhouse Square Art Show, further solidifying its artistic significance.
